The Delancey Lounge...Lower East Side, NYC

12/30/09

You can always tell who the dancers are...This guy had a Prince kind of vibe about him. When I told him, it made him VERY happy. She looks like an Asian Liza Minnelli (I didn't tell her that though).

Am I right or am I right?

I like the hightop fade...

Plan Como Party @ The Hudson Hotel...NYC

11/13

Plan Como, a Spanish company that, to be totally honest, I'm still not exactly sure what they're all about, hosted a lovely party Friday night to promote leather goods made in Spain (I tagged along with my good friend Glenn Belverio).  The soiree took place in the penthouse at the Hudson Hotel where guests were treated to a scrumptious spread of Spanish eats and equally delicioso wine and cocktails.  Admittedly, I didn't leave with any more knowledge of Spanish leather than I had when I arrived, but Plan Como was kind enough to give me a beautiful, glossy-finished handmade coin purse by a designer called Lolo—made of genuine Spanish leather, of course.

A Keith Haring reproduction on leather. Too cool.

Love the studded boots. Didn't realize at the time that his pant legs were two different colors, too.

I took another picture of him sans waiter in the background, but unfortunately it came out blurry (I blame the yummy Spanish wine for my unsteady hand).  His suit was great—especially with the bright yellow sneakers.

View from the terrace...(Note: the blur, this time, is not due to the Spanish wine.  I put my camera into 'night mode' to try and capture the sparkling lights and cityscape—isn't it amazing? I love the cityscape at night, particularly when I'm standing on the terrace of a fancy penthouse.)

DJ, sneaker aficionado and author of Where’d You Get Those? New York City’s Sneaker Culture:1960-1987, Bobbito Garcia (a.k.a. Kool Bob Love) celebrated the launch of his new Pro-Keds Royal Flush sneaker Wednesday night at the CSV Cultural Center in New York's Lower East Side. Brick Lane...London, UK

10/13/09

I just returned from a long weekend in London and, already, can't wait to get back.  The trip was short, but I managed to get a few good things in: the Sony Ericsson UK B-boy Championships World Finals (click the link for the official website) and Sunday afternoon at Brick Lane with my good friend, photographer/stylist/vintage king Markus Maverick, who you'll be hearing a lot more of here on Josie's House of Style as he's agreed to be the new UK Edition.  Brick Lane is probably the best, and as of late, trendiest, flea market in London—sort of an anything-goes marketplace where you'll find everything, from vintage clothes to old-school vinyl.  Needless to say it's also a breeding ground for genuinely cool style.

The one and only, Mr. Markus Maverick (and P.S...he always looks like this)

The people at Brick Lane...

The Maverick in action.  He's a regular fixture on Brick Lane and has been photographing the scene there for some time now. The two photos below this one are his (good eye + good camera = good for me).

While on the subject of Markus, it was amazing how many people stopped him to either take a picture or to tell him how absolutely fabulous he is.  On a totally separate occasion the evening before, a (straight) man—director/producer-type—was literally awe struck by him.  So much so that he actually gave him hug because he didn't know what else to do.  (Strange, yes.  And funny, too.)

Here, a photographer asked him to be in a group photo.  Not sure what it was for, but everyone was asked to pretend to tell a secret to the person on their right.

Until next time...

INA Men Store Opening...Prince Street, NYC

9/30/09

It's my favorite  designer consignment store—INA, and last night was the unveiling of its newly expanded men's store on Prince Street.  I went with my much-missed friend Glenn Belverio, who I haven't seen all summer long (he's been busy jet-setting all over Europe covering Fashion Weeks and being ridiculously fabulous...whatever).  The party also served as the setting for a new Bravo reality TV show (tentatively titled Kell on Earth) about Kelly Cutrone, founder of People's Revolution, who also represents INA.

Just Act Natural: Emily Bungert of People's Revolution greeted Glenn and I with a pretty smile and cameraman glued to her back (the reality of reality television)
